Frequently Asked Questions
We have prepared answers to the most frequently asked questions about our products, manufacturing, and services. If you cannot find the answer to your question, please contact us.
Manufacturing and Orders
Do you manufacture single pieces?
Yes, we manufacture from a single piece. ELEKTRON-ETTO specializes in custom manufacturing, so we can produce individual heating elements precisely to your requirements.
Is the power output per meter of heating rod fixed?
No, the power output is not fixed. The power of a tubular heating element is determined individually based on the conditions of use — it depends on the heated substance, environment, dimensions, and required temperature. Heating elements are made to order, and you can either choose the power yourself or we can design it for you.
Contact us with a description of your application.
How long does custom manufacturing take?
The standard delivery time is
4–5 weeks. The exact deadline depends on the complexity of the order, required quantity, and current production capacity.

Do you manufacture heating elements for explosive environments?
We do not directly manufacture heating elements for explosive environments, but we
cooperate with partners who specialize in this area.
Contact us with a description of your application.
What is the ordering process for a custom heating element?
1. Contact us at
info@etto.cz or by phone at
+420 581 626 366 with your technical requirements (type of heating, power output, dimensions, material, voltage).
2. Based on your requirements we prepare a technical quotation.
3. Once approved, we start production.
4. We ship the finished elements to you.
What information do you need to design a heating element?
For a correct design we need to know:
- Type of application — what you want to heat (liquid, gas, solid, contact heating)
- Temperature — starting and target temperature
- Dimensions — the space available for the element
- Power output — required wattage (if known)
- Voltage — supply voltage (230 V, 400 V, etc.)
- Environment — aggressive, explosive, food-grade, outdoor, etc.
The more information you provide, the more precisely we can design the optimal solution.
Products and Technical Questions
What types of heating elements do you manufacture?
ELEKTRON-ETTO manufactures these main types of heating elements:
- Cartridge heaters — cylindrical elements for contact heating
- Tubular heating elements — the most commonly used type, shapeable
- Band and strip heaters — for heating cylindrical surfaces
- Open coil heating elements — ceramic and mica-based
- Infrared panels — industrial IR panels for drying and heating
What diameters of tubular heating elements do you offer?
The most commonly used diameters are 6.5 mm and 8.5 mm. We also offer 5.2 mm, 8 mm, 10 mm, 12 mm, and 16 mm.
What is the maximum operating temperature of cartridge heaters?
The maximum recommended surface temperature of a high-load cartridge heater is 600 °C with an AISI 304 stainless steel sheath, or 750 °C with an AISI 309 sheath. The exact maximum depends on the cartridge type and the application.
What diameters of cartridge heaters do you manufacture?
We manufacture cartridge heaters in standard diameters:
5 mm, 6.5 mm, 8 mm, 10 mm, 12.5 mm, 16 mm and 20 mm. For non-standard diameters please
contact us — we adapt production to your needs.
What materials are the sheaths of heating elements made of?
As standard we use stainless steel
AISI 304. For higher temperatures
AISI 309 is available. For special applications other materials such as titanium or Incoloy can be supplied. Individual element types have a limited choice of sheath materials — we will recommend the best solution for your application, just

What is the SERPENTINE® technology by Tutco SureHeat?
SERPENTINE® is a patented technology by the American company Tutco SureHeat for heating gases (mainly air). It ensures perfect contact between the heated gas and the surface of the heating wire and a very fast ramp-up to the target temperature. Since 2018 ELEKTRON-ETTO has been the exclusive supplier of this technology for the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
What is the difference between mica and ceramic band heaters?
Mica band heaters are suitable for low and medium temperatures, offering good contact with cylindrical surfaces and fast heat transfer. Ceramic band heaters are designed for higher temperatures and more demanding conditions. The choice depends on the required temperature, the environment and the application.
Applications and Solutions
What information do you need to design heating for liquids?
To correctly design a heating element for liquids we need:
- Specification of the liquid (type, properties, viscosity)
- Volume of the liquid and flow rate
- Starting and target temperature
- Information about tank insulation
- Heat losses to the environment
Based on this data we design the optimal type and power output of the heating element.
What information do you need to design heating for gases?
To correctly design a heating element for gases we need:
- Type of gas (air, nitrogen, technical gases…)
- Flow velocity (m/s) and gas density (kg/m³)
- Inlet and target temperature
- Maximum permissible pressure drop
- Maximum surface temperature of the element
Which industries do you manufacture heating elements for?
We supply heating elements for a wide range of industries:
- Plastics industry — injection moulding machines, extruders, moulds
- Packaging technology — film welders, packaging machines
- Food industry — heating, drying, sterilisation
- Chemical industry — heating of solutions, galvanic baths
- Railway industry — heating elements for trains (ČD, ZSSK certified)
- Energy sector — industrial heating of air and gases
Do you offer heating elements for bathroom radiators?
Yes. We manufacture electric heating elements for bathroom radiators (towel rails). The elements are made to measure according to the radiator type and the required power output.
